Sniper Team Leader

Last week Drew had tryouts to join the sniper team. He has always been interested in joining the unit and even listed this as one of his goals in joining the Army. After a week of selection including interviews, tests, shooting, and simulated exercises, he made the team! This is a much smaller group with only 12 guys compared to the company he was in before with over 100. He is now attached to headquarters for the brigade. He is excited! He has been impressed with his leadership and is looking forward to all of the training to come. He was also honored with not only being chosen to join the team but being named the leader of his three man group. I'm proud of him! He deserved it. So this is his first week reporting to his new group and yesterday he officially transferred out of his old group. The other good news is that this group is also excited we're pregnant and will work with Drew to ensure he can continue going to our appointments. It's fun when his coworkers are excited for us too. Things are good on my end. I am really starting to feel energized and the morning sickness has gone away (fingers crossed...). In Drew's words, the baby has set up shop in my belly and I now have a noticeable bump. I have a long way to go so I can only imagine how big this bump will get! Feeling good though and looking forward to it.

Baby On The Way

We're expecting! I have now entered the 4th month of pregnancy and Baby Harris is growing like crazy. We had an ultrasound this past Wednesday where they ran a series of tests but Drew and I were more interested in seeing the baby. The entire time he/she was kicking all around, touching his/her face, opening his/her mouth...it was so neat. Drew and I just stare at the tv screen with huge smiles on our faces watching and yes, I have been known to get choked up. I feel so responsible and connected to this little baby already. And I mean little! Baby H is only 3 3/8 inches long right now. :) Drew and I knew we were ready to start trying when he got home from Iraq and we feel so fortunate/lucky/blessed that we were able to get pregnant so quickly. (He got home on a Tuesday and I was pregnant by Friday.) As part of that preparation, I switched over to Drew's insurance since the Army has great baby benefits. I am so happy I did because I now go on base for my OB visits which 1) I love the nurses and my doctor and 2) Drew can come to every appointment! If I had different insurance I would have to go to Savannah and would not be on base. I am soo happy Drew can make it to the appointments. It would be hard to explain how neat it is to see Baby H wiggling around but now he understands first hand. :) Oh and for the common questions- I am due July 22nd and yes, we will find out if it is a boy or a girl around 20 weeks. We figure we have enough unknowns as a military family that this is one thing we can plan for. And unless something changes (which it shouldn't but we're always prepared), Drew is on schedule to be home when the baby is due.
January 14th marked Drew's two years in the military. This blog's title is so fitting because it truly is an adventure. We've moved, traveled, explored new cities, Drew has deployed... and now we are going to have a new addition to the family. Drew and I were talking about how much we've done in the past two years but both agree this adventure is just getting started.

2011

The end of 2010 was a whirlwind! Actually the last three months have been a whirlwind. Between going home in November and going home again for a couple of weeks at Christmas, time flew by. Our trip home for Christmas was good. I unfortunately got really sick the week before and had to spend way too much time on the couch instead of being able to see family and friends but I was able to rally before Christmas. Well, not exactly...Christmas Eve was still a little rough and I had to go home early but I was much better by Christmas. It was great seeing everyone and being able to share our exciting news in person. Somehow I managed to not take any pictures but here is one my mom took of us. This is that hat Drew got from Ireland on his way home from Iraq. It keeps that shaved head of his warm. :) Much more to come later this week.
