Halfway Home

Today marks six months which means Drew is halfway home!! The other great news is that, as you know, Drew was just home for 2 1/2 weeks. It was the best thing ever!! We looked forward to our time together for so long, and it was well worth the wait! It was everything we imagined and more. Yes, the cruise was amazing and island-hopping around GA was fantastic... but being able to eat breakfast together, sleep in the same bed, sit on the couch and watch tv, go to the grocery store... the little things were just as amazing. Oh it was the best!! I don't really know where to begin so I guess I'll give you a little slideshow. :) Let me begin by saying, when Drew walked in the door, the dogs absolutely went crazy. They walked right past me and that trend continued the entire time Drew was home. If Drew went in the kitchen, went to the bathroom, walked outside, the dogs were right there with him. They love their momma but they definitely miss their daddy!

The first week we spent our time visiting the different islands around here. We went to Jekyll, St. Simon, and Hilton Head. We did some fishing but more than anything we relaxed.
And how did I forget the eating and drinking part? We had so many amazing dinners at home and out. Maybe that's why we both gained 5 pounds. :) It could not have been better. I love this picture of Drew. :) I think I love every picture though!

Next, we were off on our cruise to the Bahamas. That was even more relaxation time, eating, drinking, swimming in the beautiful water and spoiling ourselves. It was so romantic!

In Nassau we rented a car to get out and see more of the city. We rented this hilarious little car. When we were in AZ last year we had a little yellow one... but I think this is even smaller! Drew looked so big in it!

And of course we had to go to Senor Frogs before we got back on the ship. But don't worry... we returned the car first so we were not driving. :)

The last part of our time together we did "normal married couple things" like running errands and hanging around here. We went to Tybee one day and had fun catfishing one evening but besides that we didn't go too far. It was the perfect way to wrap up our time together.

Then on Wednesday morning it was time for Drew to get back to work. I shaved his head the night before like I did last time. We think it's a good luck thing. :)
I took him to the Savannah Airport and was able to go to the gate with him. And that was it. We have six more months to go then we will be together for much longer. Drew and I agree that it was so nice to have those two weeks together, but it also makes us want to be together even more. We looked forward to our time together for so long and now it is time to set our sights on Drew coming home in October. Drew is in Kuwait right now on his way back to Kirkuk. I talked to him tonight and he definitely misses home already but he is focused on his last six months. I'm happy to wait another six months for that man. I'd wait for him any day.

The Journey Home

Drew has officially started his journey home. He is not quite sure of all the legs of the trip but it will go something like Balad, Kuwait, Ireland or Germany, Atlanta, and Savannah. Drew will officially process in once in Atlanta and his leave will begin the following night at midnight. At this point, I am on standby. We hope that he can call at some point along the trip but it might not be until he is in Atlanta and calls to tell me he only has one 30 minute flight left. By the way, it's only about a 30-40 min flight from Atlanta to Savannah. I am COMPLETELY ready for him to get here. The house is clean, the dogs are washed, the lawn is mowed.... just need my big man at this point. Tomorrow I will get groceries and send one final report for work and I will be out of the office for two weeks! I am not getting too many groceries as Drew is really looking forward to going to the grocery store. :) I can't wait. I am trying to remain sane at this point but I am failing every second. :) I have never been more excited in my entire life. I have fallen asleep later and later each night and wake up earlier and earlier. I did this before I saw him after basic training too. It is the best excitement feeling ever. OH this is the BEST!!!! And I will likely not blog for a couple of weeks- WE will be here for a week and on a cruise for a week. It is so fun to say WE have plans!! We hope he is here no later than Monday but we'll see. Only a matter of days and hours now!!!!!!!!

Happy Easter!

Hope everyone had a Happy Easter with family and friends! I'd be lying if I said this really feels like a holiday. Not at all. All this feels like is one more day closer to seeing Drew. It is all we can think about! Yes, I have seen Easter baskets, eggs, candy, little kids dressed up for mass... but my brain is focused on one thing. I get to see my husband in one week. Drew and I attempted to say we were not going to talk about it because if we were too excited the days would drag on.... well that lasted all of five minutes in the conversation before we went right back to how excited we are. Drew's schedule is still crazy. He has multiple missions and is still pulling the 24 hour checkpoint security. Things are becoming more active in Iraq as the warmer weather sets in, but the guys are prepared and staying sharp. But even with staying sharp and focusing on mission, Drew is completely focused on coming home!!! Yes, I will cut this blog short since it's a little duplicative. Bottom line: Drew leaves Iraq on Friday, April 9th. He could be here as soon as Sunday or as late as Tuesday. It's taking 2-5 days to get home. I will take two weeks vacation. We will be here for a week and on a cruise to the Bahamas for a week. We CANNOT wait!!! Oh the power of patience!!! I've decided it's time to cut myself off from caffeine. I'm wired!!
